The Jordan Lake Open Water Challenge is a 1.2 and 2.4 mile open water swimming race. We also offer a 1k option. This race is flat and fast! The triangular swim will be at Vista Point near the boat docks.

Sanctioning and insurance:
The races are privately insured. No membership fee is required.
Age limits
You must be 12 or older to compete in the 1 mile and 14 or older in the 2 mile. We can make exceptions for proven youth swimmers.
Wetsuit rules:
If the water temperature is 78 degrees or below, wetsuits will be allowed. 78 degrees or higher, no wetsuits. No exceptions!
Fees:
Entry fees are $22 for the 1k, $44 until 1 month prior to the event, and $49 thereafter for the 1.2 mile and $54 / $59 for the 2.4 mile. There is a ~6% processing fee.

WEATHER POLICY
In the event of inclement weather the following procedures will be followed:
1. The event will be delayed 45 minutes in hopes the inclement weather will pass.
2. If inclement weather does not pass in 45 minutes, the swim will be cancelled and no refunds or transfers will be issued.
Awards:
The top three males and females and top overall masters (40+) will receive overall awards. The top 3 in age-group categories (5 year increments) will receive awards (no duplication). USAT Wetsuit rules will be in effect.
T-shirts:
Specially designed t-shirts will be given to competitors who sign up 10 days prior. We will do our best to provide t-shirts to everyone who signs up, but if you sign up in the last two weeks we won't guarantee a t-shirt.
Entry limits:
Entries are limited to the first 300 entrants (total) in 2025.
Rain/Weather dates:
There are no make-up dates. We will only cancel an event if absolutely necessary for the safety of participants.
Safety patrol:
Each race will have proferssional water rescue crews, lifeguards and kayak patrols manning the course to ensure the safety of participants.

Why open water?
We are big fans of open water racing and training, and while North Carolina has plenty of triathlons, we don't a lot of organized open water races. We've been happy to help change that.
